Cucumber In Holy Qur’an

Cucumber as a vegetable and a complementary food, it turns out that this vegetable contains many benefits, both for beauty and health. At the time of the Prophet Muhammad, this vegetable has been used as an ingredient for health. There is a suggestion that says:

“Eat and love cucumbers, because the Messenger of Allah. eat and love it.”

In the Qur’an, cucumber is alluded to in Surah al-Baqarah verse 61:

“And (remember), when you said: ” Musa, we cannot be patient with just one kind of food. Therefore ask your Lord for us, that He may bring us out of what the earth grows, namely its vegetables, cucumbers, garlic, fennel beans, and onions.”

In Hadits it is stated that the Messenger of Allah. often eat cucumber with a combination of fresh dates to maintain health.

From Aisyah RA. that the Messenger of Allah. often eat cucumber mixed with wet dates.” (HR. Bukhari and at-Tirmidhi).

In addition to maintaining health, the combination of the two is also to increase body weight and change the shape of the body from being skinny to being fuller. In a narration it is stated that Aisyah RA. when he was about to meet the Messenger of Allah, he regularly consumed cucumbers and wet dates to get the ideal body. It is said that at that time Aisyah’s body was small and thin. Sayyidah Aisyah says:

My mother treated me to make me look fat when she was about to introduce me to the Messenger of Allah, and the effort was fruitless so I ate cucumbers with wet dates. Then I became fat with the ideal shape.” (HR. Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah).

In Islamic medicine, the vegetable which has the scientific name Cucumis sativus is known as Qitsa or Khiyar. Modern research results say that cucumber contains 0.65% protein, 0.1% fat, and 2.2% carbohydrates. In addition, it also contains other beneficial substances, such as calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, vitamin A, vitamin B1, vitamin B2 and vitamin C.

Several other benefits of cucumber are also discussed in several hadits of the Prophet and in the Qur’an which are basically efficacious for health, fitness and beauty. Health research has found that a high water content of up to 90% makes cucumbers have the effect of facilitating urination, helping to eliminate and neutralize toxins (toxins), and helping flush bacteria along the intestines and bladder walls.

The content of water and potassium minerals in cucumbers also removes excess uric acid and metabolic waste through the kidneys. The way of presentation is to eat fresh fruit every day, approximately 400 grams twice a day. In addition to eating it directly, it can also be served in other forms, juice or grated. Cucumber juice is cooling the body and reduce heat when fever. Also lowers blood pressure in hypertensive patients, and nourishes the digestive tract.
